Anya Taylor-Joy has signed on to the growing cast of The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum. The hotly anticipated next chapter in the beloved fantasy franchise.
Directed by Andy Serkis, who also returns as Gollum, the film bridges the gap between The Hobbit trilogy and the original Lord of the Rings trilogy It follows Aragorn and Gandalf as they track down Gollum to uncover the truth about Bilbo’s ring and its devastating power over Middle-earth.
Anya Taylor-Joy will portray Seren, a Sindar Elf of the Woodland Realm and a deadly, trusted operative of King Thranduil. She joins a cast that blends returning franchise veterans with fresh faces. Ian McKellen reprises his iconic role as Gandalf, Elijah Wood is back as Frodo, and Lee Pace returns as Thranduil. Newcomers to the series include Kate Winslet as Marigol, Jamie Dornan as Strider, and Leo Woodall as Halvard.
Behind the scenes, Peter Jackson, Fran Walsh, Philippa Boyens, and Zane Weiner produce. While Ken Kamins, Serkis, and Jonathan Cavendish of The Imaginarium serving as executive producers. The screenplay comes from Walsh, Boyens, Phoebe Gittins, and Arty Papageorgiou.
The Hunt for Gollum is scheduled to open in theaters on December 17, 2027, through Warner Bros. and New Line.
Taylor-Joy, represented by CAA, The Way Management, and Felker Toczek, has a busy slate ahead, with Apple TV+’s Lucky coming up, followed by Denis Villeneuve’s Dune: Part Three.
Meanwhile, the broader Lord of the Rings universe continues to expand: Stephen Colbert is co-writing a second film alongside Boyens and Peter McGee, currently titled The Lord of the Rings: Shadow of the Past. Set to follow The Hunt for Gollum, that project has yet to attach a director.
