Where will you be on December 18? If you’re reading this, you’re probably planning to spend the whole day at the cinema. That’s when Dune: Part Three and Avengers: Doomsday both hit screens on the same day. Fans have already dubbed it “Dunesday.” We’ve seen several trailers for Denis Villeneuve’s trilogy-closer already. The Avengers side, though, has stayed quiet. There have only been a few tiny teasers so far. That’s changed now. A full Doomsday trailer has arrived. It’s packed with heroes from across the MCU Multiverse. And it gives us our first proper look at Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom. Watch it here:
There’s a lot to unpack. Let’s start with the heroes. Thor appears to be taking a major role as one of the last original Avengers standing. Inside the shiny New Avengers tower, Bucky, Ant-Man, and Captain America greet the Fantastic Four alongside the God of Thunder. Shuri’s Black Panther comes face-to-face with Namor. Gambit squares off against Shang-Chi, somehow. Loki looks visibly stressed, holding the timelines together as the TVA’s frontman. Yelena battles what looks like herself, but it’s actually Mystique in disguise. Then, in the final moments, Thor calls it a “miracle”: Steve Rogers is back, bearded, and ready for battle. Or is that Battleworld?
Seeing all these heroes collide is exciting on its own. Notably, there’s no Spidey or Doctor Strange in sight. But the real draw here is Doctor Doom, the film’s namesake and biggest selling point. We’ve known for a while that Robert Downey Jr. is playing him. He shows up several times in the trailer, masked and cloaked, radiating menace. At one point he goes toe-to-toe with Thor and leaves Asgard’s finest visibly shaken. Here’s a new Doom-centric poster to go with it all:
