Director Craig Gillespie’s Supergirl has launched its box office run. The DC Studios superhero film earned $7.8 million from Thursday night previews.
The Warner Bros. title stars Milly Alcock as Kara Zor-El, Superman’s cousin. It follows last summer’s Superman and marks the second big-screen entry in the DC slate built by James Gunn and Peter Safran.
Alcock previously appeared in a cameo in 2025’s Superman. Now she leads the film as Supergirl in a full starring role.
Reviews are mixed. The Hollywood Reporter’s chief film critic David Rooney called it an “uninspired slog,” though he praised Alcock’s “hard-edged performance” for making her “an appealingly punky protagonist.”
Jason Momoa trades in his Aquaman role for comics bad boy Lobo. He joins Alcock as part of the main cast. Matthias Schoenaerts, Eve Ridley, David Krumholtz, and Emily Beecham also appear. David Corenswet reprises his role as Superman.
Also opening this weekend, Paramount’s Jackass: Best and Last pulled $1.2 million from Thursday previews. Director Jeff Tremaine leads the fifth installment of the Johnny Knoxville-fronted franchise. The film targets $10 million domestically and cost just $10 million to make. Knoxville, Steve-O, Chris Pontius, and the rest of the crew all return.
Meanwhile, Scary Movie crossed $100 million domestically on Thursday. It’s the first R-rated comedy to hit that mark since Girls Trip in 2017. Anna Faris, Regina Hall, Marlon Wayans, and Shawn Wayans lead the cast. The film has now topped $200 million globally. With this sixth installment, the Scary Movie franchise has crossed $1 billion worldwide.
