Sacha Baron Cohen’s Ali G is heading back to the big screen in Ali G: Who Iz I?, an Amazon MGM Studios film hitting theaters October 23.
The comedian announced the title and release date in an Instagram video, staying fully in character as Ali G, the persona he originated back in 1998, complete with the exaggerated Jamaican patois that’s long been part of the act. His caption played up the “documentary” angle: he joked that people had finally made a film about him, and that unlike a certain penguin documentary, this one delivers considerably more animal sex. He closed by teasing the October 23 release with his signature “cominatcha” phrasing.
This marks Baron Cohen’s directorial debut in feature films. It also continues a mini-resurgence for the character. Just weeks earlier, he showed up at the Wimbledon men’s final in full Ali G costume, joking on Instagram about supplying weed to bored spectators. Before that, Ali G’s most recent outing was a brief 2024 bit on The Tonight Show, where he “moderated” a mock debate between Joe Biden and Donald Trump, and he’d also made a surprise cameo at the 2016 Academy Awards.
The character’s film history goes back to 2002’s Ali G Indahouse, which actually abandoned the mockumentary format that made Ali G famous in the first place, a style Who Iz I? appears set to bring back.
